Ruchi Ambike, SLP (C), Reg. CASLPO
I am a registered Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with over 20 years of experience working with children and their families in the public sector (including ErinoakKids and Paediatric Outpatient Services at Trillium Health Centre) as well as privately. I strive to provide a nurturing, professional and personalized environment for your child. My philosophy is a family-centered approach that entails working together to ensure the most positive therapeutic experience for your child.
I work with preschool and early school-aged children with varying communication difficulties and diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental Delay. I am Hanen Certified (More Than Words, It Takes Two to Talk, Target Word, Learning Language and Loving It, and TalkAbility), trained in the Social Thinking curriculum, and am now delving into Natural Language Acquisition Levels 1, 2, and 3. I continue to seek out professional development opportunities in order to enhance my practice.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, including my two young and energetic children. They keep me on my toes, and have given me ample insight and perspective into child development.
Services
I believe in a client-centred approach, which entails finding what works best for my clients and their families. Every child is unique and therefore requires therapy that has been tailored to their individual needs.
I maintain regular contact with other professionals that are involved in educational or care-giving roles with my clients, such as daycare staff and SLPs in community programs. This way I can ensure that everyone is working towards the same goals and that ultimately my client receives the full benefit of all services being provided.
Areas of communication that I provide assessment and therapy for include:
- Articulation, motor speech & phonology: producing sounds in combination in running speech, overall clarity
- Receptive language: understanding vocabulary, commands, and questions
- Expressive language: how a child communicates (i.e.-words, gestures), grammar, sentences
- Social Communication, pragmatics, and play: the social use of language, play skills
- Developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder
Rates
My fees for assessment and therapy are consistent with the guidelines generated by OSLA (The Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists). Please contact me for more details.
Many employers provide coverage through their benefits plans for speech and language assessment and therapy for their employees and their families.
